About Tongue Lashing!

Tongue Lashing is a monthly open-mike series for queer poetry, spoken word and flash fiction at Phoenix Bar in the East Village of New York City, held on the first Thursday of every month at 8 PM. Any writers who wish the read their own work are welcome to sign up for the open mike at 8 PM, and there will be one invited featured reader every month. The evening is hosted by writer/poet/playwright Matthew K. Johnson.

Every reader gets 3 minutes on the mike. Subject matter and form is totally open; in the past, people have read political poetry, erotic stories, queer essays, etc - our audience is super supportive and we'd love to hear anything that you have to bring!

If you're interested in getting more information about the reading, e-mail Matt at johnson.matthew.k@gmail.com.

If you're interested in being featured on Tongue Lashing, send Matt an e-mail with your bio and a sample of your writing - either 1 story/essay or 3 poems. Every feature gets 15-20 minutes on the mike, and can bring chapbooks or publications to sell at the reading!
