About Your Host


Matthew K. Johnson is a poet, fiction writer and playwright from Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a Departmental Fellow at the Rita & Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing at the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU from 2005 to 2007. He holds an MFA in Playwriting from NYU, and was the recipient of the Astere E. Claeyssens Prize for Playwriting and the John Golden Prize. His plays have been developed at NYU, the Bridge Theater, the George Washington University and Beyond the Wall. His poetry has been published on Rogue Scholars and Poetz.com, and he is currently working on his first novel. He has been the host of Tongue Lashing, a queer open mike series, in New York City since March 2010. He lives in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
